As the above example demonstrates, inaccurate archwire slots lead to substantial torque loss and inconsistent performance. This inevitably leads to more chair and treatment time as you attempt to treat the appliance as well as the patient. Just two thousandths of slot deviation (common with many appliances in the market today) can eliminate the torque potential of your system when using popular finishing wire sizes.

Additionally, undersized rectangular wire engagement is often characterized as providing 0 degrees of actual torque expression. This characterization is inaccurate at best, as there will generally be a specific amount of axial rotation prior to engagement in most edgewise slot/rectangular archwire combinations. The axial rotation expressed below in red numbers can randomly occur in either direction, which further reduces the precision and control you require for efficient treatment mechanics.
