Conventional springs can deflect the archwire during initial activation, leading to unintended and undesirable movements.

Reactiv springs allow you to choose the loop that lessens initial force but allows for progressive reactivation as teeth move.

Ortho Specialties is proud to introduce our new, nickel titanium coil springs with multiple engagement properties.

  • The concept is quite simple yet revolutionary; you can now “reactivate” the spring to maximize its force properties, minimize the inventory required for various applications, and save money by using the same spring through the duration of the procedure without loss of efficiency or effectiveness.

  • One Spring With Multiple Applications...

The multiple engagement properties of the Reactiv™ nickel-titanium coil springs allow one spring to become three! Here’s how it works...

Our Titan™ niti springs are ideally extended to approximately 2 times their original length for optimal force properties without permanent deformation. For example, we recommend that a 9 mm spring should be extended 18 to 20mm. With Reactiv multiple eyelets, the same spring can be additionally extended to 24mm, or 28mm without permanent deformation or altering the ideal force unload properties. One spring offers multiple applications for maximum efficiency and cost-effective application.

Niti springs can be activated up to 3x their original length. We recommend, however, that you activate the springs to approximately 2x their original length as this will reduce overall force levels and ensure they remain in a highly uniform range. You will also eliminate the potential for permanent deflection and commensurate loss of active properties.

The following graph illustrates the remarkable range of activation available with a Reactiv 9mm spring. The additional eyelets allow you to extend the spring to a recommended maximum of 26 mm. Progressive reactivation allows you to efficiently close all spaces to 1 mm!

  • reactiv™*springs are easy to use by following this simple guide...

  • 1. Determine the total space from hook to hook.
  • Example: “There is a total of 20mm between my molar and canine hooks.”

  • 2. Select the appropriate spring.
Example: “I will choose the 9mm spring and use the 2nd (middle) loop.” This will generate about 240 grams of initial force. “I will engage the most distal loop to “reactivate” the spring once teeth have moved sufficiently.

  • 3. Treatment considerations.
    a. We recommend the spring be extended approximately two times its initial length to maintain maximum elasticity.

  • b. The additional loops extend this range of activation at four (4) mm increments.

  • c. Unload forces can be reduced by choosing a larger spring or by choosing the farthest loop to limit spring extension.
